We are Citizens of God’s Kingdom

When we align ourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ through faith in His completed work and in surrender to His Lordship over our lives, we come under the government of God. That means we no longer live subject to human government alone, but we now have the privilege to be called citizens of the government of our Lord (Phil. 3:20). Citizenship infers on the recipient all the legal rights as a member of that governmental body. It is the promise of the right to have a hand in the development and growth of that kingdom, as well as enjoy the freedom, prosperity and protection, that kingdom merits. Heavenly citizenship confers on us all the privilege, honor, freedom, favor, that heaven contains. We are loyal subjects of the King of heaven, the Lord of Angel Armies. He commands myriads of angels, an army to vast to number, an army that has never lost a battle. The economy we are now subject to as citizens in Christ’s Kingdom contains unlimited resources and wealth so vast and limitless it cannot be measured. Precious stones of the highest value adorn the gates of heaven’s city and makes up the very foundation of its walls. God’s city in heaven is made of the purest gold, gold so pure it is like glass in appearance, devoid of all mineral impurities (Rev 21:19). So why do you worry and why do you fret? Why do you limit your access to your own limited resources, or look at the limited finances in your worldly account alone? Do you not know that your Father owns the “cattle on a thousand hills” (Ps. 50:10-11)? Is your Father not wealthy? Did Jesus not say, “you are worth more than many sparrows” (Matt. 10:21, Lu. 12:6-7)? Begin to walk in the knowledge of your citizenship today, set your mind on things “above” and not on “earthly things” (Col. 3:2). The Amplified text says, “Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things]. Heaven’s resources are yours through Christ Jesus our Lord because as the Scripture says, “therefore since you have been raised in Christ” (Col 3:1). You can be a citizen by birth, but never access all that true citizenship confers, because of your “lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6).

Stand on the Word of God today, claim your privilege and right as a Son or Daughter of God, a citizen of His kingdom, in Christ Jesus our Lord. And may Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 1:18 become your reality today, “By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones)…” Amen.
